Delicious New Fabric

Far Far Away III, 1001 Peeps and some pretty Bella solids... I can't wait to make some cutesy stuff out of these, but I'm so nervous to cut them! (Happens every time.) I have a few ideas of little things I want to make, like a mug rug and some special little pillows for some special little girls. I can see a pale pinkish-coraly-linenish quilt on the horizon, too. I've been working with a lot of bold and bright stuff lately, and I think I'm ready to tone it down a little bit.

It seems I can't finish one project without coming up with another one! (or two...) 

I can't wait to get started on this one! I think I'm going to let myself buy some new fabric soon... I've taken some big chunks out of my stash over the past couple of months :)

The Littlest Bit of Liberty of London

I got the littlest bit of Liberty fabric from Purl Soho the other day, for a future quilt I'm going to call "A Poor Girl's Liberty of London Quilt." :) (Since I can't afford that big fat color wheel bundle... Expensive!) I have the quilt planned out in my mind, but need to get it down on paper and order some more fabric before I can get started.

Daily Photo 66/365 - Delicious Vintage Sheet Scraps

I am obsessed with fabric and quilting lately. It's all I can think about! I yearn to pull a freshly finished quilt out of the dryer and just breathe it in and wrap myself in its coziness. Aaahhh... Now if I only had like a solid, say, three hour block without interruption to get some sewing done!

I got these vintage sheet scrap bundles off of Etsy the other day. I can't wait to start working with them. No plan yet, though. Ideas?

Yesterday I went to my first meeting with the Southwest Virginia Modern Quilters Guild, and I am so glad I went! I convinced my friend Jamie to come with me so I wouldn't be so nervous. She's a beginner sewer, but should be quilting it up in no time :) So far there are only 11 members in the guild, and only 5 were at the meeting (including Jamie and me) but the girls I met were really nice. I think it's going to be a good group and a lot of fun :) I'm looking forward to the next meeting!

Daily Photo 64/365 - Pink and Yellow

My picture from Saturday is a shot of the fabric I'm using for my current quilt project, Elizabeth Hartman's New Wave Quilt. (It's downloadable at Pink Chalk Fabrics.) This is the first quilt I've made using my own color scheme, as in all of the fabrics aren't from the same designer or fabric line. So far the quilt has been been really easy, although my final pieces aren't lining up perfectly. I need to be more careful when I cut. Ugh, I hate being a novice, but I'm not letting myself get down about it. It still looks really pretty!

 

I just joined the (pretty much brand new) Southwest Virginia Modern Quilters Guild and my first meeting with them is tomorrow night. I'm nervous about it. Meeting new people and driving into unknown territory in the dark? (It's all the way in Rocky Mount, which is about a 45 minute drive or so.) Nervous. We are supposed to do a fat quarter swap, which could be fun. Hopefully some of the more experienced quilters can give me some tips.

My First Line of Hand Screen Printed Fabric - "Drops"

I am proud to say that I already got to mark #15 off of my 28 before 29 list yesterday: Greg and I collaborated on a hand screen printed fabric collection, "Drops." 

I wanted to start with a really basic design at first, just to see if we could even make it happen, and we did! They are about 18"x22" (fat quarters) hand screen printed (by Greg) with water based inks on medium weight white cotton fabric. 

Although I'm not 100% happy with the way the photos turned out, (I think the fabric looks prettier in real life) I went ahead and used them in my shop anyway. They are for sale as singles, in 3 packs of the warm or cool colorways, and as an entire set. I think I'm going to have to break out the trusty light box to get some prettier pictures though.

I have a cute project in mind for this design, and I'm really excited for Greg to print some more of the designs I've come up with!
