Halloween was a great ending to a great weekend. I got a workout in and then Vada and I did a little shopping (I got some eyeshadows and blush from Mac, and Vada got a bunch of stuff on sale at Baby Gap) while Greg mowed the lawn and did some electrical work in the kitchen.
After Vada's second nap, it was time to get her costume on and have some Halloween fun! First, Greg's mom came over to get some pictures of Vada as a little matryoshka doll.
I'm really proud of Vada's costume this year because it ended up looking exactly the way I pictured it in my mind when I came up with the idea! I followed a Simplicity pattern to get the basic body shape and then kind of winged the rest of it. I've been sewing a lot lately (I try to sew a little bit every day) and I am getting so much better at using my machine and following patterns. I didn't have to rip a single seam while making this costume :)
Vada's friend Lucy invited her to a neighborhood Halloween porch party, so we headed over there at around 5:00. It was really fun seeing all the kids in their costumes! My favorite was a cute little Harry Potter. I got so excited when I saw him like he was the "real" Harry Potter or something :) Vada's pretty shy, so she didn't really play with any of the kids, but she had fun looking at them.
The party was so fun we decided to skip the whole trick-or-treating thing. Vada can't really eat candy yet anyway, so.. Then on the drive home I realized I had accidentally left the porch light on and we weren't there. Whoopsies! Luckily we don't really get many trick-or-treaters at our house, I guess because we're on more of a "main" road and you have to walk up a bunch of steps to get to our front door? I don't know. Our first year in our house I was so excited to have trick-or-treaters and bought all this candy, and I think we got maybe three doorbell rings. I was so bummed out! So anyway, thankfully our house wasn't toilet papered while we were gone.
While laying in bed trying to fall asleep last night, I suddenly realized that I hadn't eaten a single piece of candy on Halloween! Kind of ironic because I usually manage to eat at least one piece of candy every other day of the year :)
I guess I have to take Mr. Skeleton off of my front door today and replace him with something a little more Thanksgiving-ish. YAY! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I can't wait!
